Degrees in the Vocations

Students studying a vocation, such as welding or auto mechanics, have a range of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificate programs to choose from. A vocational program offers concentrated training tailored to a specific career field with hands-on coursework and often offers externship experience.

Many vocations require particular certification and many degree programs prepare students specifically to test for such certification. A welder, for example, can earn a diploma or associate degree, as well as become certified by the American Welding Society. Culinary students have an even broader range of degree choices; everything from recreational cooking certificates to master degrees in the culinary arts are available.
